artist statement:

The current pursuits of my practice reside in the space between photography, digital collage, and sculpture, with each medium lending to the others what it itself is not capable of. I am interested in the optics of vision and the ways in which personal memory factors into perception. The physicality of the print, the duplication/combination of images, and the complicated relationship images have to the real world are phenomena I explore with a combination of “straight” photographs, studio constructions, and digital manipulations of photographic material.

what do you love about the MFA program at UO?

It is a theory heavy program with an interesting/open curriculum, diverse faculty, a good infrastructure (up to date facilities, full-time student gallery, nice museum on campus), located close enough but not too close to Portland and in proximity to lots of other outdoor interests. The program is very much interdisciplinary, which allows for a lot of freedom in artistic/academic pursuits, but also in terms of learning to speak about a variety of mediums.  Since the University of Oregon is not only an art school and the program gives you the freedom to do so, you have the opportunity to take classes through other departments that would not be available on a school only focused in art.

anticipated graduation date: June 2014
