artist statement

Screens Without Function is a collection of photographs depicting Jumbotrons from around the globe, caught during the brief moments in which nothing is displayed on their screens. It’s in these moments between the paid advertisements that the machines diverge from their intended functions, momentarily bathing their target audiences with a blanket of calm white light. What the camera produces is a direct window into this technological sublime, revealing a poetic byproduct of the machines we have built to motivate our global consumer culture.

What do you love about the MFA program at Parsons The New School?

The time I have spent studying at Parsons The New School has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The program has allowed me to interact and study with many professionals within the field, all leaving distinct impressions on my own artistic practice. Whether it is in the 5th Ave classrooms, the Chelsea gallery district of NYC, or at international exhibitions in Beijing China, the educational experiences have continued to remain truly one of a kind.

anticipated graduation date: Summer 2014
